Sugaring, or sugar waxing, is gaining more and more popularity in the Western world. It uses wholly natural ingredients, can made at home, only attaches to hair, and is very effective. Whether you are using cold or hot wax, you have just ripped hair out by the roots and your skin is going to be irritated. Here are some tips for soothing the skin afterwards.
Steps
- 1Rinse your skin in cool-to-tepid water and use a soft wash cloth to get rid of any spots of sugar still stuck on.Ad
- 2To avoid irritation that may crop up later, like those little red bumps, make a mixture of rubbing alcohol, witch hazel and ground aspirin. A mixture of about 60 percent witch hazel to 40 percent alcohol with an aspirin for every 2 fluid ounces should do it. This mixture will prevent ingrown hairs and irritation, it is also excellent for acne or any mild skin irritation. Remember that the measurements are just approximations, you can slap together these ingredients in just about any proportions and still have something that will work well.
- 3Lay on a thin layer of oil. Any quality body oil will do. You can find these oils in any African American beauty section. They are absolutely wonderful for skin, and last longer and cost substantially less than regular lotions. Just be sure to purchase varieties where a natural oil (that is to say, not mineral oil) is the main ingredient. If you do not have any on hand, you can use an equal amount of olive oil, or even vegetable oil, just be especially light on these.
- 4Continue to care for the skin until the next sugaring. Gently exfoliate the area with a scrubby or a poof when bathing, and oil lightly while the skin is still damp. Also continue to use the aspirin mixture to help prevent ingrown hairs.
