Apply a washcloth doused with warm to hot water to the pubic area in order to further soften the skin and hair. If the hair is soft, it will come off easier and cleaner. An ingrown hair occurs when the hair is cut too close and begins to regrow under the skin, causing it to get infected.

Step 3

Cover the hair with a layer of shaving cream or gel. The cream will give the razor a smooth surface to glide over, minimizing damage to the skin.

Step 4

Shave the hair with the razor. Go in long smooth strokes, moving in the direction of hair growth. Give each section two passes with the razor in order to make sure the area is smooth. Wash the hair from the razor periodically in order to maintain a sharp edge.

Step 5

Rinse the pubic area to remove any excess cream and hair. Pat the area dry with a towel.
